Hello, my name is Derrion. Welcome to the Journey!
December 2017, is where it all began...
Two things I've always had a huge passion for: Technology and art.
As a kid, you would always see me drawing or playing video games lol. When I graduated high school, I was unsure what I wanted to do. I shuffled through quite a few majors from exercise science, to biological science, to criminal justice. I eventually decided to drop out of school. I needed some time to think about what I truly wanted to do without spending large lumps sums of money.
My ex-girlfriend had a camera at the time. Ironically, it was a Christmas gift I had gotten her. I really had no interest in it when I was buying it. She wanted to start her own YouTube Channel on makeup. Well...you guessed it! The camera never got used. Since she never used it, I picked it up a few times and played with it a bit. The more I explored it, the more intrigued by its technical language. Understanding how one thing always effected another. It was the perfect blend; art and technology.
I started with YouTube Gaming. I thought to myself, like a lot of other gamers now-a-days, I love gaming! So why not film myself, share my love for gaming, and make a profit/lifestyle from it? Well, unfortunately if you would like to become a YouTube popstar the process is very slow and you may not see your first paycheck until after your first year...and sometimes longer. I loved streaming, but I wanted to get my hands on a "real" digital camera, not a webcam, and create my own stories from scratch.
Alongside YouTube gaming, I was also filming "unbox and review" videos of the latest tech! My first few videos were actually pretty good...for a first timer lol. After every video I shot and/or edit, I'd always ask myself, "How can I improve?". I am a very attention to detail type of person so best believe I noticed any mistake; no matter how large or small. Because of my obsession for perfection, I began to look into cinematography instead of videography. In case you were wondering, Cinematography is the art of video.
Cinematography and photography are very different, but also just as similar. Both fields that are very obsessed with the art of the shot. I learned that to become a successful cinematographer, I needed to master some of the same skills a photographer need to master to be successful. These skills contain, but are not limited to, how shot is composed, the lighting, the shadows, the poses, the colors, and so on. Eventually, these details stood out in every video I watched. This is where my professional journey begins...
All-in-all, my goal as a Cinematographer is to produce groundbreaking, breathe-taking, cinema-grade videos to live forever.
Check out my work and don't forget to share! Any form of support is ALWAYS much appreciated.
Welcome to my journey. I hope you enjoy.
